THINGS TO DO We will have a book at the cabin listing the various activities we have done in the area. Leaving blank pages for any of our guests to add in their discoveries. Relax: Sit on the deck and taking in the birds and views. Berry Picking: When in season, the driveway up to the cabin is bordered by Blackberry and Black Rasberry bushes. Feel free to pick and eat or make a cobbler or pie. Bullpasture River Gorge: A wonderful place for kids and adults. A 30 min drive from the cabin. This is where both the adult and the child can fish with success. You can also swim or swing from the rope, so bring a suit. There is also a couple of caves to explore. Hiking and Biking: Highland county is bordered by two of our national forest. George Washington http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/gwj/ and Monongahela National Park http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/mnf/ . We are closer to George Washington National Forest and have found great place to hike and mountain bike close by. Everyone is encouraged to do the short hike at the Breast Works (the overlook just east of Birding: So far we have seen Scarlet Tanangers, Indigo Buntings, Cedar Waxwings (migrate through), Phoebes, hawks, wild turkeys at the cabin and a Bald Eagle and Blue Heron while out exploring around the rivers. Local information on birding can be found at the Bath-Highland Bird Club website http://bathhighlandbird.org . Check out the Highland Chamber of Commerce http://www.highlandcounty.org for additional information about the Maple Sugar Festival and other activities in the area. Bullpasture RIver Gorge |
